IN A SPECIAL FUNDRAISING PROGRAM FEATURING THE FEBRUARY 8TH COMMUNITY GATHERING AT RIVERSIDE CHURCH “MANDELA PRESENTE!:THE TRUTH ABOUT NELSON MANDELA: A REVOLUTIONARY FIGHTER AND REVOLUTIONARY CUBA’S ROLE IN THE DEFEAT OF APARTHEID”
The evening featured addresses by South African Ambassador to the United Nations, Jeremiah Kingsley Mamabolo; Cuba’s U.N. Ambassador (who fought in Angola) Rodolfo Reyes; a special surprise presentation by Cuban parliamentarian (and “first daughter”) and director of the Cuban National Center for Sex Education in Havana, Mariela Castro; civil rights attorney Michael Tarif Warren and the director of IFCO/Pastors for Peace – Gail Walker. The President of Cuba’s Friendship Institute (ICAP), Kenia Serrano, sent a video greeting and the event also presented a video of Nelson Mandela speaking in Cuba in 1991.
For two hours we will be playing excerpts of those addresses (and videos) interspersed with news highlights; and we are asking all our loyal listeners to support this programming with monetary pledges to keep our precious non-commercial, listener-sponsored FM radio station on the air. THE PLEDGE LINE IS: 212-209-2950
Our situation at WBAI is dire and yet we have managed to hold on while trying to pay the bills and improve programming. But – as the term “listener-sponsored” implies – we cannot do this without you.
Listeners who pledge at the $75.00 level will receive a 2-cd set of the “Mandela Presente” program in its entirety. $85.00 pledges will receive a video of the event.
Please tune in to WBAI (99.5fm-nyc) this Thursday, march 6th from 7 to 9pm. We are streaming live and archived at WBAI.ORG
Thank you!!! Sally O’Brien, Margaret Gilpin and Jane Franklin
