by Allegra Taylor, loving daughter of Hugo Pinell
Hugo L.A. Pinell Legacy: It was important to my Dad to always give honor where honor was due. This tribute to an honorable ancestor is offered in that spirit.
They are together again, Khatari and Hugo, now ancestors looking over us. Many nights I sit and wonder what the elders would tell us today. Dad told me stories of Khatari; he loved him like a brother.
Dad shared how Khatari’s leadership in the prison resistance movement was a vital vein after the assassination of George Jackson. He was committed, intelligent and disciplined. He led by example. They loved working out together as they conditioned their bodies, minds and spirits to survive the hellish life of prison.
True revolutionary, Khatari would never compromise the principals of his belief in the fight for freedom. They (CDCR) saw his leadership as a threat. After his murder and in his honor, the comrades shaved their heads and practiced those principals with a stronger commitment to self-determination and freedom.
Here we are 40 years later and we are still fighting for the same prisoner rights. Yes, the struggle continues. As our ancestors are gathering, we have a responsibility to honor what they lived and died for. When the torch is passed, it is up to us to stand on the shoulders of our ancestors and continue the fight for freedom.

Will you settle your quarrels, as George urged us to do? Will you put your differences aside for the sake of our people? Will you come together for the greater cause?
Will you STAND in SOLIDARITY on the principals of our ancestors? The choice is yours, remember our ancestors are watching and waiting to see if we as a people have learned anything from traps of the past that divided us.
Salute to a True Revolutionary, Khatari, RIP!
Ashe! Ashe! Ashe!
